Principal’s Message

Every parent wants a school where their child will feel safe to grow and learn to love learning. With so many schools out there, it is a hard decision to make. While we have many programs that set us aside from other schools, it is our sense of community that keeps families coming back to STJW.

The top five reasons your child will thrive at STJW

  • Our relationship with our Parish, Trinity Catholic College, and the wider community ensures we belong to a dynamic and supportive community.
  • We have a dedicated team of educators who use contemporary educational practice to challenge all students to be reflective, self-motivated risk-takers.
  • We provide a range of opportunities to nurture every child’s strengths and talents
  • Our community is strong, We believe that a good relationship between school, child, and family is crucial to a good educational pathway
  • The values of St Joseph the Worker and Mary Aikenhead underpin who we are at STJW

Come and visit us and we know you will leave saying “STJW is the best-kept secret.”

We are open for enrolments and look forward to welcoming you for a tour. Please call our school office to see our community spirit, welcoming grounds, and supportive classroom environments.

Gabi Tobin
Principal

This school is very friendly and welcoming.  The teachers encourage the students to try new things and learn from your mistakes.  Even though we are not a big school, we get an extraordinary education from this school. – Winnie, student

St Joseph the Worker Catholic Primary School Auburn South was founded in January 1962. Our school beginnings were unique as the first principal, Mrs McGhee, was a lay principal and there were only infant classes which were held in what is now the school hall.

From 1964 until 1987 we were blessed to have the Sisters of Charity lead our school. We continue to follow in their charism to share the love, tenderness, and concern of Christ with all whom we meet, seeing Christ in everyone. Over time our school grew and co-educational classes went up to Year 6. With the help and support of the parish and school community many improvements were made to the school site: the building of a new classroom block, a new administration and library block, and the extension and landscaping of the playground. Those who helped to found and build our school inspired our school motto ‘Creating a difference’.

We are proud to have St Joseph the Worker as our Patron. Through his hard work, he was able to honour God, our Father, as he used the talents given to him. As a carpenter, he was able to provide for the material needs of Mary and Jesus and provide us with an example of service and love.

Our Vision

At St Joseph the Worker Catholic Primary School, we are an inclusive, Catholic community with hope in our hearts, love in our actions, compassion in our words and justice in our choices.

We nurture hearts and minds to create a difference – empowering individuals to be reflective, self-motivated and courageous in taking risks in their learning.

Our Mission

At St Joseph the Worker – a Catholic Parish School centred in Christ and guided by the example of St Joseph the Worker – our mission is to:

  • Anchor all we do in Christ’s love, living our values of love, compassion, justice and hope in every relationship and decision
  • Foster academic excellence through a framework that encourages reflection, self-direction and courageous risk-taking
  • Cultivate an authentically Catholic community that welcomes and celebrates culture, learning and diversity, ensuring a sense of belonging for all
  • Support each learner’s spiritual, emotional and academic growth, empowering them to create a difference in their communities and beyond
  • Build inclusive partnerships across school, parish and wider community, grounded in trust and shared purpose and the teachings of Christ reflecting the call to love our neighbour and work as one body in Christ.

At St Joseph the Worker Catholic Primary School, our Catholic identity is the heartbeat of school life. Each morning begins with our school prayer, before meals we pause in gratitude, we pray the Angelus at midday and close the day with afternoon prayers.

We are part of the St Peter Chanel & St Joseph Parish at Berala.  Each term we invite our families to join us at Mass at St Peter Chanel Church.  In addition, regular School Masses and liturgies are celebrated in St Raymond’s Church, and all families are warmly invited to join us in worship, strengthening the bond between home, school and parish.

Our Religious Education program follows the Sydney Catholic Schools curriculum. Students engage with Scripture, Church tradition and faith concepts through lessons that are taught, assessed and reported in line with Sydney Catholic Schools standards.

Every element of our learning whether in prayer, study or service is centred on the person of Jesus Christ, inspiring compassion, justice and hope in our daily lives.

We are blessed to have Fr Josh Miechels our parish priest, visit classrooms regularly to share reflections, offer blessings and deepen students’ understanding of their faith. All students are invited to participate in Eucharistic Adoration, and those who have received the sacrament of reconciliation may celebrate this sacrament at school.

The Sacramental Coordinator from St Peter Chanel & St Joseph Parish guides families through preparation for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation, ensuring a supportive journey.

In addition, our Family Faith Educator works alongside families, providing resources and encouragement as they grow together in faith.
