By connecting to the real world of students’ lives, authentic learning enables students to become lifelong learners who contribute to society and the wider world as active and discerning citizens. Authentic learning is central to our work as Catholic educators because it promotes the continual growth and wellbeing of the whole person — spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.

Learning ApproachWe believe that every child has the capacity to learn at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Primary School Auburn South. By working together with our families, we can help each child to reach their full potential. Our students know that they can set goals and achieve them by being reflective, self-motivated learners. By setting high expectations together and building on our students’ innate potential we encourage them to be lifelong learners who will grow in their capacity to contribute to our school community and the wider society.

To be an active learner students need to be:

  • I try new things
  • My mistakes help me learn
  • I am not afraid of a challenge

Self-Motivated

  • I know that effort creates success
  • I am positive about my learning
  • I keep trying when things get difficult
  • I commit to my goals

Reflective

  • I think about my learning
  • I wonder what I have done well
  • I wonder what I can improve
  • I set SMART learning goals
